Effective PR on a Limited Budget

9 04 2007

Businessweek’s Karen E. Klein has a great piece on small businesses doing their own public relations.

The main problem with small businesses who are trying to do PR is that they want to do too much. They want their business to be in The New York Times or featured on Oprah. I teach them to manage their expectations and know their audience

I think managing a client’s expection is the biggest lesson I’m learning to do this year. They do want to be on Oprah and get into the New York Times. I’ve done it before but not every client can get the attention from mainstream media starting out. I’ve been trying to set realalitic expections and then try and over delivery and add value added services that clients would want. I’m hoping this will set me apart from the pack. However, you can check out the piece here.

Why One Marketer Doesn’t Believe in Second Life

Second Life Logo Eric Kintz at HP doesn’t believe Second Life is quite ready for prime time. He has a post listing 10 reasons why marketing in the world isn’t there yet. I agree with him in some ways, but I think the bigger picture is missing. Much like the real world, you’ve to get people to come to your event/place in Second Life. The world is just taking off and I think people are still getting their feet wet.
