Facebook: The Next Social Gaming Platform Part 3

Last week we looked at the community aspect of Facebook and how it’s vital to any startup. This week I wanted to look at the infrastructure and money aspect of Facebook. The money part is particularly interesting as they unveiled their rate card last week. However, at the same time some advertisers have withdrawn their support from Facebook. We’ll leave all that talk for the money post later this week.

The infrastructure on Facebook is pretty well structured if you look at it from the idea that the building is the site and your personal profile, the roads are what connect us between our friends on Facebook and the power supply is the back end at Facebook HQ. This has turned Facebook into a small city with a great community vibe as I mentioned last week. Last fall Facebook opened up to everyone out side of the college crowd. The infrastructure on Facebook has kept up as they added on to what was already a great system with the Facebok Developers’ API, newsfeed and taking it as far as advertising last week. I’m not sure what they have planned for this fall season, but if history has taught us anything, it’ll be great.

Continuing with this series of blog posts, I will address the last key elements, which is money, that is positioning Facebook to become the next social gaming platform. I’ll look at Kongregate as well as what the next killer gaming application might look like.
